Addiction Recovery for Executives

Addiction Recovery for Executives

Addiction is an attempt to solve a problem and reduce pain. Addiction is manifested in behaviors that a person craves and finds temporary relief or pleasure in. However negative the consequences are as a result, the person has difficulty giving up. This can include almost any human behavior, from mobile phone use, to work, to sex activities to eating to shopping to gambling to extreme sports and workouts, to drug use and drinking, to TV to compulsive internet use. The list is endless. Addictions to power, success and money are also on the list.

Recovery is an on-going process of investigating what it is to be human. We start to reclaim parts of ourselves that have been forgotten, suppressed, invalidated, unacknowledged or lost. When we wake up and start to become more self-aware, we are able to address the issues that leave us vulnerable to addiction. Recovery is a process of becoming more responsible and accountable, of learning to work with our emotions. Over time we learn to become more comfortable with who we are rather than who we are supposed to be.
